Our new roof and ceiling...

So it all started with a bang in the night... a branch broke off a tree during a storm and besides being awaken and quite bothered, we had no idea the damage it had done to our roof... until one morning after it rained and my dresser was covered in water! Jake poked a hole in the ceiling when he got home and water just poured from it! Apparently the branch not only poked a hole in our shingles, but it broke one of the trusses and two sheets of plywood. So the insulation was getting soaked and we had no idea until it finally started to seep into our bedroom. Oh what worked lay ahead... for Jake that is... I just stood by and looked pretty (not easy in my state you know... it did take some work!) We were so grateful for his dad's help over Christmas. He got up on the roof with Jake and did more than any man on vacation should ever have to do... but that is how the Moon men bond! He helped Jake so much and taught him so many things he didn't know about, it was such a blessing to have him here! They were up on the roof for two days in the bitter cold getting the old roof off and the new roof on... and it was REALLY, REALLY cold!
Jake then had the pleasure of ripping down our cardboardish ceiling that we've been dying to get rid of since day one, but it was nasty work!
After he ripped out the ceiling, he had to get rid of most of the insulation too, alot of it was damaged and had black mold on it. He threw it all out the bedroom window and instead of letting it sit there for days on end, he got right to bagging it up and throwing it away! I couldn't believe I didn't even have to nag him =) He really did work so diligently through this whole project!
Then he put in new insulation and a new drywall ceiling... I did help with this part a little... but the one time I was helping I broke a piece of drywall in half! He was so gracious even through that!
He then painted the whole thing by himself, he wouldn't let me get near the paint since I'm pregnant... so sweet!
All finished... it was so much work for a boring white ceiling! Now I know why people put glitter on their ceilings, after all that work you feel like you need something beside boring old white... but he promised we could live with it for a while before adding sequins and glitter and glow in the dark paint =)
What a hunk! And he's really godly too... I can't believe I get to be married to such an incredible man and my best friend too!

Wow, what a superhero Jake was! I give him a standing ovation for fixing the roof and ceiling all by himself. The job your husband (and your dad) did looks just like it was done by professionals. I would have hired a roofing company, if I was in the same situation. I get a peace of mind with their expertise in handling the roof and ceiling of my own home.

Kudos to Jake! I can only imagine how tired he must’ve been after fixing the roof and ceiling. Sounds like he did a great job! I’m with Saundra though. I’m more confident in the skills of a roofing company than my DIY knowledge. But Jake’s very good at what he does, so I think you have no problem doing the work on your own.

How close was the tree to your house? Good thing the piece of wood wasn't that big to penetrate the roof and break in the house. That would be pretty dangerous. You guys did a good job of being able to fix it quickly.
